Our values

We are educational

Scientists are creating wonders every day. Almost everything that makes our daily life easier is thanks to science and technology discoveries and innovations. We believe that science constantly evolves and changes and so there is always something to learn from it. Our experiences are designed to make you think and learn as you interact with each and every one of them.

We are hands on

We believe the best way to learn is to get hands on. Science Space experiences are designed to be tactile and interactive – we want you to touch, make, change and feel.

We are accessible

Science and technology is for everyone, and so is Science Space. Yes, we have experiences for kids, but they are also for mums and dads, grandparents, teachers, science enthusiasts, budding astronomers those that like to make, and those that just want to do something that they don’t do every day.

Our history

Science Space's journey began in 1989 as the Science Centre and Planetarium, housed in the historic migrant building just north of our current location. Founded by Glen Moore and a dedicated team of volunteers, the Centre quickly became a local treasure, captivating visitors with exhibits from Expo '88 and Questacon.

Tragedy struck in 1998 when devastating floods ravaged Wollongong, causing extensive damage to the Centre. Undeterred, we rebuilt with the invaluable support of the University of Wollongong (UOW) and the NSW Government. In 2000, Science Space reopened its doors as the first building on the UOW Innovation Campus.
